Third day on I headed out with Johnny to Brown Beck crag, a long hour+ drive followed by a long walk in were to be rewarded with the 3* Pella and an assortment of minor Jamie Moss classics. I even printed off the 'new routes' from the leeds wall database in order to maximise by experience at this venue.
The walk in wasn't actually that bad but did take a while, we hadn't brought a map so were a bit concerned that we wouldn't find it as we didn't really know much more than the description in the guidebook but after 40 minutes we stumbled across some Slipstone escapees nested in the bracken. We set to work and climbed a lot of stuff, including the complete Jamie Moss experience ( the highlight being the V diff of Crevasse) - Pella was superb as were some of the other lines such as Wichita Linesman. I was getting tired on the last routes of the day and so never got on some of the harder higher stuff but will come back to mop those up. I even managed to slip in a new route - called Escapology as it involves a tricky mantle into a horizontal crack and then a really tricky contorted move to get stood up and reach a crimp and the top - its actually quite good. Brown beck is a superb venue - a beautiful setting and away from the crowds but it does feel a bit wrong walking PAST slipstones, However the routes are worth the trip.
