Dom on the 6b arete of the excellent boulder Roof of the world
My 3 day week was too stressful so i decided to head out to Caley. I met up with Johnny, Dom and Huw by the sugarloaf boulder and managed to dispatch a VS, HVS and E1 on the side of it that i have soloed on lots, i was pleased with the repeat of Myopia though as this was the 1st repeat for me. I then started doing some proper bouldering and so had a go at the full traverse of the sugarloaf. With a few shake outs and a bit of pointing out holds after a long haul i managed the full 360 degree circuit and arrived back to the crux.We then headed up to the Roof of the world boulder as i knew it was a fun one to play on and we did a few campussy ascents and then some ultra -eliminate ascents of the left and right aretes at Font 6b. Good value!
We played on an arete problem i had never seen before at 5+ with a brilliant mantle top out and then repeated it with no heels or feet on arete for extra amusement.
Finally we walked around behind the roof of world boulder and did some eliminates that involved big and awkward throws but were very satisfying if not in the book!
About to leave i decided to try the pinch as it had cooled down, I got a demo from Huw and after a couple of practice goes, i held the pinch and threw for the top, THEN:::
My hand slipped off the top and i fell, missing the mat and hitting a rock with the arch of my foot, much limping ensued and despite thinking I could retry I am hurting a bit now - Its painful to press the clutch on the car and i'm trying to stop the swelling. Double annoyed at not getting the pinch and potentially screwing my climbing for a couple of weeks. Gutted!
Me at the end of the sugar loaf loop!
